Abstract: The article analyzes opinions on instruments for sustainable regional development and ways to reduce inequality. The importance of regional development programs and strategies in solving economic and social issues is assessed, and their role in developing effective regional economic policy is substantiated.
To assess the balanced development of regions, the level of concentration of economic activity is determined by the distribution coefficient. It is concluded that none of the regions of Georgia is particularly specialized. The level of concentration of business sectors in the regions is substantiated by distribution curves. When constructing the distribution curves, the distribution of wholesale and retail trade activities is taken into account as an example that is very close to the ideal distribution. The analysis of the distribution curves confirms that the level of concentration of business sectors in the regions of Georgia is quite uneven and no region stands out for its sectoral specialization. The article identifies the problems of sustainable and balanced development of regions, draws conclusions based on their assessment, and offers recommendations for overcoming these problems.
