The research operationalizes the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model to assess supply chain performance across its five core attributes: reliability, responsiveness, agility, cost, and asset management. data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysis of official documentation and statistical records. The findings reveal that the CP2K complex demonstrates high reliability in order fulfillment. Responsiveness and agility are evidenced by short order fulfillment cycle times and relative flexibility in production volume adjustments, though unplanned stoppages due to equipment failure and resource shortages highlight operational vulnerabilities. The study confirms that the SCOR model provides a comprehensive and applicable framework for measuring supply chain performance in this context. However, findings also underscore the complex's reliance on imported raw materials and exposure to global supply chain disruptions, as well as the absence of advanced technological integration.
Khayreddine Belaaze, Marwa Naceur, Nadjet Lechehb Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://iem.ge/ojs/index.php/journal/article/view/381 Thu, 07 May 2026 00:00:00 +0400 Fragmentation and Digitalization: Outlines of a Looming Bretton Woods 2.0 https://iem.ge/ojs/index.php/journal/article/view/382
Mirza Khidasheli

E-mail:Mirza.khidasheli@cue.edu.ge

Professor, Central University of Europe

Kutaisi, Georgia

https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7682-8109

Niko Chikhladze

E-mail: nikoloz.chikhladze@atsu.edu.ge

Professor, Akaki Tsereteli State University; Professor, Central University of Europe

Kutaisi, Georgia

https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2878-1836

ABSTRACT

The international monetary system faces the dual challenge of accelerating digitalization and deepening geopolitical multipolarity. These forces, while irreversible, also risk driving the world toward financial fragmentation if unmanaged. Historical precedent, from the gold standard to the original Bretton Woods and the rise of SWIFT, shows that market-born instruments often emerge to fill gaps in global settlement and reserve functions. Today, Bitcoin and XRP—though not state-designed—represent such instruments, arising organically from market adoption and technological evolution. This paper does not aim to prescribe a fixed blueprint for the future. Rather, its purpose is to outline the contours of an impending transition, drawing lessons from past monetary regimes while examining how digital assets and CBDCs may shape the architecture of a multipolar financial order. By highlighting both risks and opportunities, the paper seeks to promote informed discussion and encourage policymakers to prepare for the realities of a digital, multipolar monetary landscape before crises impose disorderly adjustments
Mirza Khidasheli, Niko Chikhladze Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://iem.ge/ojs/index.php/journal/article/view/382 Thu, 07 May 2026 00:00:00 +0400 Sustainable Urban Development in Georgia: Trends, Challenges and Opportunities https://iem.ge/ojs/index.php/journal/article/view/383
Giorgi Gavtadze

E-mail:george.gavtadze@atsu.edu.ge

Doctor of Economics, Professor Akaki Tsereteli State University

Kutaisi, Georgia

https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6080-0163

Lili Maghlaperidze

E-mail: lili.maghlaperidze@atsu.edu.ge

PHD student in Economics Akaki Tsereteli State University

Kutaisi, Georgia

https://orcid.org/0009-0001-2034-9715

ABSTRACT

Sustainable urban development has become one of the most important and complex directions of contemporary development, driven by accelerated urbanization, the concentration of economic activities in cities and growing social and environmental challenges. The study relied on a descriptive-analytical approach by examining the development of seawater desalination projects, assessing their contribution to meeting water demand, and studying the challenges facing this strategic option. The study's results showed that Algeria witnessed a significant expansion in the number of desalination plants and their production capacities during the study period, particularly in densely populated coastal areas, which contributed to improving the regularity of drinking water supply and reducing dependence on groundwater resources and dams, especially during drought periods. The results also showed that desalinated water has become a key resource within the national water mix and has helped alleviate the severity of water crises in several coastal provinces, On the other hand, the study revealed a set of challenges that limit the effectiveness of desalination as a comprehensive and sustainable solution, foremost among them are high investment and operational costs, heavy reliance on conventional energy, environmental impacts resulting from the discharge of brine, as well as the limited transfer of desalinated water to inland areas. The study concluded that seawater desalination represents an important strategic option to enhance water security in Algeria, but it does not constitute a final solution on its own. Rather, it should be integrated into a comprehensive national vision based on diversifying water sources, rationalizing consumption, improving water governance, and increasing reliance on renewable energy, thereby ensuring the achievement of sustainable water security in the long term
Abderrazak Kadi Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://iem.ge/ojs/index.php/journal/article/view/384 Thu, 07 May 2026 00:00:00 +0400 Transformation of International Marketing of Companies in the Context of Sustainable Development and Economic Digitalization https://iem.ge/ojs/index.php/journal/article/view/385
Paulina Kolisnichenko

E-mail:paulina.kolisnichenko@wshiu.pl

PhD of Economic Sciences, Associate professor, Vice Rector for International Cooperation, WSHIU Academy of Applied Sciences

Poznan, Poland

https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6730-1236

Iryna Zakryzhevska

E-mail:zakryzhevskai@khmnu.edu.ua

PhD of Economic Sciences, Associate professor, Head of Marketing Department, Khmelnytskyi National University

Ukraine

https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0918-9949

Vitalii Karpenko

E-mail:karpenkov@khmnu.edu.ua

PhD of Economic Sciences, Associate professor, Dean of Faculty of Economics and Management, Khmelnytskyi National University

Ukraine

https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2476-6700

Mariia Dykha

E-mail:dykhamv@khmnu.edu.ua

Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Professor of the Department of Economics, Analytics, Modeling, and Information Technologies in Business, Khmelnytskyi National University

Ukraine

https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4405-9429

ABSTRACT

The article examines the processes of transformation of international marketing under the influence of global megatrends – digitalization and sustainable development. Research has proven that forensic accounting is rated as the most effective specialised accounting system that can be used to combat fraud. However, it is the least often used out of the available options in accounting system. In Nigeria, there seems to be little or no knowledge of this promising career known as forensic accounting among undergraduates which could help the nations’ bid against corruption. This study therefore aimed at investigating forensic accounting education in public universities as a determinant of career development for undergraduates. The study involved collection of quantitative data. These data were collected from accounting students and accounting academics. The questionnaire served as the survey instruments. The data collected were coded and analysed using appropriate statistical technique and computer software. The study found out that the level of awareness of forensic accounting is relatively low among students and academics. It is in affirmative that inclusion of forensic accounting courses in the curricula will further improve the awareness of forensic accounting. Forensic accounting education will enhance undergraduates’ career development in forensic accounting and concluded that universities in Ogun State are not ready to take up forensic accounting courses. The findings of this study have both theoretical and practical recommendations. Theoretically, it further strengthened the findings of previous studies on intention to use forensic accounting. Practically, there should be manpower development in universities where forensic accounting is being specialised. Also, universities should be mandated to review their curriculum, include relevant courses that will make students knowledgeable on how to combat fraud and employ foreign experts that will teach these courses
Taofeek Osidero Agbatogun, Oluwasegun Temitayo Odunsi, Matthew Olawale Ogunleke Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://iem.ge/ojs/index.php/journal/article/view/387 Thu, 07 May 2026 00:00:00 +0400 Problems And Prospects of Sustainable Development of The Tourism Industry: Global and Uzbek Context https://iem.ge/ojs/index.php/journal/article/view/388
Zumrat Gaibnazarova

E-mail:z.gaibnazarova@usat.uz

Doctor of economic sciences, professor University of Science and Technologies

Tashkent, Uzbekistan

https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6325-4890

Mubina Golib qizi Saydaliyeva

E-mail: mubinasaydaliyeva2604@gmail.com

Bachelor’s student University of science and technologies

Tashkent, Uzbekistan

https://orcid.org/0009-0004-8013-5542

ABSTRACT

In the context of globalization and the intensification of environmental, economic, and social challenges, the sustainable development of the tourism industry has acquired strategic importance at both global and national levels. Tourism, as one of the most dynamically developing sectors of the global economy, has a significant impact on employment, regional development, the preservation of cultural heritage, and the rational use of natural resources. At the same time, the uncontrolled growth of tourist flows, inefficient resource utilization, infrastructure limitations, and institutional imbalances pose serious threats to the long-term sustainability of the industry. The purpose of this article is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the key problems and prospects for the sustainable development of tourism in the global context, with a particular focus on the conditions and specific features of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The study examines contemporary scientific approaches to the concept of sustainable tourism, analyzes major environmental, economic, and social challenges inherent in the tourism sector, and evaluates the extent to which these challenges manifest at the national level. The methodological framework of the research is based on systemic and comparative analysis, a critical review of academic literature, and the examination of official statistical and analytical sources. Special attention is paid to international experience in implementing sustainable development principles in tourism policy and the possibilities for adapting these practices to the conditions of Uzbekistan. The findings of the study identify key directions for enhancing the sustainability of the tourism industry, including the improvement of the institutional environment, the development of environmentally responsible tourism, the digitalization of tourism services, and the strengthening of cooperation between the public and private sectors. This systematic review synthesizes quantified financial outcomes from 51 peer-reviewed studies spanning 2018-2025 and validates findings through expert consultation with twelve university stakeholders in Uzbekistan. We identify five domains where AI demonstrates measurable financial benefits, with strongest evidence in administrative automation achieving 18-32% cost reduction across fourteen studies, smart campus resource management producing 25-40% energy savings in eleven studies, and predictive retention analytics improving rates by 3-8 percentage points in thirteen studies. However, implementation in transition economies faces distinctive barriers including limited budgets averaging one-eighth of Western counterparts, immature data infrastructure with 15-25% error rates, technical capacity constraints, and organizational resistance. This study makes three novel contributions: first comprehensive quantitative synthesis of AI's return on investment specifically for financial outcomes in higher education; first empirically-grounded analysis of implementation barriers validated through stakeholder consultation in Central Asian context; and evidence-based six-stage implementation framework integrating systematic literature findings with contextual constraints of resource-limited institutions. These challenges have significantly expanded the spectrum of risks faced by commercial banks and have highlighted the need to reconsider traditional approaches to risk management. In this context, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors are no longer perceived as secondary or reputational issues, but increasingly influence the financial stability and strategic sustainability of banking institutions.

This article explores how ESG principles have become integrated into the risk management systems of commercial banks and how they transform established risk assessment and decision-making practices. The study traces the evolution of ESG from the concept of corporate social responsibility and emphasizes its transition into a practical management framework. A particular focus is given to ESG banking, a field where financial institutions fulfill a dual role. They are subject to investor scrutiny while actively steering sustainable development through their lending and investment strategies. The research delves into non-financial risks, with a special emphasis on climate and governance concerns. These risks are distinguished by their indirect transmission channels, considerable uncertainty, and long-term ramifications.

Using international guidelines such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals and TCFD recommendations, the article demonstrates how ESG risks are transmitted into traditional banking risk categories, including credit, operational, market, reputational, and strategic risks. Special emphasis is placed on the relevance of climate risks for emerging economies, where environmental vulnerability may significantly affect borrowers’ financial performance.

The study argues that effective ESG risk management cannot rely solely on classical quantitative methods. Instead, it requires a combined approach that integrates financial indicators with expert judgment, qualitative analysis, scenario modeling, and ESG ratings. The use of ESG ratings is considered as a practical tool for improving credit portfolio diversification and reducing exposure to environmentally harmful sectors. The findings confirm that the integration of ESG principles into bank risk management enhances resilience, supports more balanced decision-making, and contributes to long-term sustainable development
Madina Tuychiyeva Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://iem.ge/ojs/index.php/journal/article/view/390 Thu, 07 May 2026 00:00:00 +0400 Economic Security of Georgia in the Context of Global Challenges https://iem.ge/ojs/index.php/journal/article/view/391
Ramaz Otinashvili

E-mail:r.otinashvili@gtu.ge

Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Georgian Technical University

Georgia, Tbilisi

https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7892-6159

Shota Veshapidze

E-mail: shota.veshapidze@tsu.ge

Doctor of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University

Georgia, Tbilisi

https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0933-364

Besik Oboladze

E-mail:besikoboladze@gmail.com

Security expert, Doctor of Technical Sciences. The main objective of the study is to determine the significance and functional role of economic security within the integrated system of national security, as well as to identify the key internal and external factors that influence Georgia’s economic resilience, independence, and long-term development prospects in the contemporary international environment. The research is based on the premise that economic security is no longer merely one of the directions of economic policy, but rather a fundamental prerequisite for state sovereignty and sustainable development.

The methodological framework of the study is grounded in an interdisciplinary and comprehensive approach. It employs the historical-logical method to examine the evolution of the concept of security from antiquity to the modern era; comparative analysis to contrast different theoretical approaches to security and models of statehood; and systemic and structural analysis, which considers economic security as an integrated system of interrelated elements. In addition, the study applies a comprehensive analytical method encompassing the complex assessment of economic, social, political, technological, and geopolitical factors and the identification of their interdependencies. This methodological approach enhances the depth and reliability of the research.

The main findings demonstrate that in the contemporary world the concept of national security has expanded significantly, with economic security emerging as one of its central components. Historically, state security was based on military power, territorial control, and the possession of natural resources, whereas under conditions of globalization, technological progress, and the information society, decisive importance is attributed to human capital, innovative potential, financial stability, and institutional effectiveness. In the case of Georgia, ensuring economic security is linked both to strengthening the internal economic system and to reducing external economic risks and dependencies.

The practical implications of the research findings may be utilized in the process of designing state economic and security policies, improving national development strategies, and effectively managing global and regional challenges. The study also provides a theoretical foundation for further academic research on issues of economic security and contributes to the intensification of academic discourse on this subject
Ramaz Otinashvili, Shota Veshapidze, Besik Oboladze, Tamar Otinashvili Copyright (c) 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://iem.ge/ojs/index.php/journal/article/view/391 Thu, 07 May 2026 00:00:00 +0400
