Abstract
The academic staff of higher education institutions determines the level of professionalism of generations, their competitiveness, the level of development of the society, which, in turn, is the main determinant of living standards, poverty alleviation, efficient and effective use of resources. It is also the basis for the preparation and long-term development of future scientific staff.
The world is constantly offering different challenges that can only be addressed through the use of lateral knowledge of higher professional knowledge. It is important for any state to be able to spread knowledge within the country, to use the maximum human potential. This requires special flexibility from the academic staff of higher education institutions, which ensures the supply of labor resources on the labor market. Accordingly, the effectiveness of incentive mechanisms for academic staff formation and development is actual, also taking the best global experiences and the reality within the country into account is important so as not to localize knowledge, to ensure universal, latest knowledge transfer to students using modern methods.
The paper discusses the peculiarities of regulating the process of academic staff selection at universities in terms of improving selection criteria and career development. In particular, the determinants for academic staff selection, the challenges associated with the process, the issues of responsibility, authority and commitment; Career levels at universities, academic staff selection criteria, issues of selection process management have been studied and relevant recommendations have been given.
